I thought today I would explain a little about our decision to homeschool our seven children. Hope you enjoy.....
Homeschooling has become more common and much more normalized in today's culture. However the stigma of homeschoolers still exist. There are so many questions not asked of those whose children attend public or private school. Will your child resent you? Will your child go to college? Will your child get into a "good" school? And, honestly, the answer to two of those questions is, "I don't know, if that is their choice, I will certainly do what I can to make it happen." The answer to the other question is, "Hopefully not. We try to raise our children to understand that we love and appreciate them and we truly care about what they have to say. Hopefully, they will understand that we made these decisions prayerfully and with their best interest in mind."
You see, homeschooling has its ups and downs just like public school does. Homeschooling is not perfect. There are a ton of good reasons to homeschool and yes, I still believe it is best for most children but we are human and we fail, the same way that public school teachers fail. Daily. We simply try to do the best we can and there are days, weeks, months, sometimes years, where we have to simply extend GRACE. Grace for our students and most of all, grace for ourselves as teachers.
We LOVE having our children with us, safe and secure, for the most part. We love taking them on trips and learning about everywhere we go, the people we meet, the food we eat, and the things we get to do. We love teaching them about whatever we want and spending as much times as we want to on a subject. We love finding additional resources to continue teaching more about a topic of interest to us. We just love the absolute freedom of it and when my Dad passed away, I knew that I wanted our kids to know us and know us well and it just didn't seem possible to me to get that time without homeschooling.
My husband and I were both public schooled and I worked in our local public school system for 3 years during college. I wanted nothing more than to be a teacher my entire life but quickly became disenchanted with the system. When Claire, our firstborn, was almost 4 and ready to start prek, we started researching homeschoolers as I had gotten into reading "Mommy blogs" around that time and a few of them were homeschoolers. We had started researching homeschooling and we quickly decided it was for us! Charlotte Mason became my favorite topic of conversation and still is to this day!
I do want to mention that we have family that teach in the public school system and they are awesome and amazing teachers! They do their jobs extremely well. We just don't feel the need to utilize the system but if we did, we would feel completely comfortable with our family teaching them.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to homeschool and teach our children as much Bible and art and music and sewing and crafting and cooking and baking and everyday life and sports that we would like to and no one can stop us. It's a wonderful feeling to be in control of your own life and your child's education. We hope to homeschool for many more years to come!
I hope you enjoyed this short and simple little look into why we homeschool and come back in the next few days to read more. I hope to have a menu plan up and a a few more things pertaining to homemaking and homeschooling.Follow me here so you can see everything I post! See you soon!

P.S. Yes, I do admit that not everyone is a good homeschool teacher. It takes dedication and hard work and a lot of strength of character. I also believe that everyone makes mistakes and has bad days. We just can't let those derail us from our mission to be the best that we can possibly be. .God bless you all!
